Meet the Edinburgh Kevock Choir

Founded in 1967, the Kevock Choir takes its name from the lovely valley between Lasswade and Loanhead, Midlothian, through which the River Esk flows. The original members were pupils and former pupils of Lasswade High School but nowadays members are drawn from all over Edinburgh and the Lothians. "“Edinburgh” was added to the name at a later date, to help identify the choir when on tour, but the choir is still popularly known simply as the Kevock Choir."

We sing mainly shorter choral works and arrangements, which we aim to perform to a high standard – the choir’s hallmark is the quality and variety of its programme. The choir enjoys tackling both classical and contemporary arrangements, embracing Scottish and other folk songs, religious pieces, and choral settings of popular music and songs written for stage or screen. On occasion we support today’s composers by commissioning new settings of well known songs.

Most of our concerts are given in our home area, often in aid of charity or church funds. Our season’s programme now regularly includes appearances in St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh, and St Mary’s, Haddington; but the highlights of our season are our Christmas concert and our Annual Concert in late May, both held in Edinburgh.

We rehearse on Tuesdays between late August and the end of May (school holidays excepted), from 7.15-9.00pm in the Assembly Hall, Lasswade Community High School, Eskdale Road, Bonnyrigg, EH19 2LA. The location is not far from the Edinburgh City Bypass.

We welcome enquiries from potential members – please come along to a rehearsal if you would like to try singing with the choir. We are always ready to welcome new members into the fun and excitement (and challenge) of mixed voice choral singing.
